Filtering TechniquesFiltering Variables (Columns) In order to filter a variable, click on any price (excl. nil prices) in the respective column so as to be directed to the [Current Constraints] page. Note that your current constraints for this variable is 'none'. Also, note that the value in the cell you had clicked, has been set automatically as the value of the constraint you are about to set. This can be changed of course, by clicking inside the box and typing another value. Your available choices here are:
- to exclude coms above/below a certain value for this variable, by typing the target value in the appropriate box, and an infinitely small/big value in the other.
- to set a price-range this variable can take, by typing the lowest possible value and the highest possible value it can take in the relevant boxes.
- additonally to the above, to exclude all coms with nil value for this variable.
Important notice: - once you set a constraint, Filter-X will automatically exclude nil values as well.
- once you have set a constraint and you wish to clear it, return to the [Current Constraints] page and click on the relevant command on the lower part.
Special cases: Certain variables, rather than being subject to numeric constraints, they require text-filtering (e.g. Market Sector). In this case, by clicking on any value in the respective column, you are directed to a different filtering page than in the previous case. Here you choose one or more text-values (by holding the Ctrl key down) which you wish to exclude from the selection process, and click on [Filter]. In order to undo such a filtering, return to that page and un-click the text-values using the Ctrl key.
Sorting Variables (Columns) As soon as you have selected variables, formed and applied the filtering criteria, and therefore created the table you wished, you may decide to sortthe table according to a certain variable. In order to do so, click on the tilte of the variable once and the table will be sorted in descending order (top-to-bottom). Click again and it will be reversed to ascending order.
Note that when you add a new column, the table is automatically sorted by the new column in descending order.
Discarding Sectorial Data In order to exclude the sectorial and other unwelcome data from a table, and so as to be left only with meaningfull company data, add-in the [MARKET SECTOR] and [MARKET SEGMENT] variables. Then apply the following filters:
a) [MRKT. SECTOR], exclude PRSL/-/ODTT/DOTS b) [MRKT.SEGMENT], exclude MISC/-/ODTT/TEST
Discarding Delisted-Com's Data In order to exclude data of companies that have been delisted from the stock exchange (but for a reason still occupy a place in the filter-X database), add-in the [PRICE CHANGE] column, and then filter it excluding nil values. |
