Standards-Based Softphone Client Provides Presence-Enabled Voice,
Video and Text Messaging, with best-in-class voice quality REDWOOD
SHORES, Calif., March 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Oracle today
introduced Oracle(R) Communicator, a standards-based PC softphone
client, featuring Global IP Solutions' (GIPS) best-in-class audio
technology. Oracle Communicator in conjunction with Oracle
Communication and Mobility Server (OCMS), both key components of
Oracle Service Delivery Platform (SDP), provide a complete and
customizable Voice over IP (VoIP) platform. The combination enables
customers, ISVs and communications service providers (CSPs) to gain
market advantage by quickly building and deploying VoIP, instant
messaging and presence-enabled applications to meet increasing
demand for innovation and speed to market in the rapidly changing
communications industry. (Logo: NewsCom:

deploy into enterprises or large-scale subscriber networks to
facilitate collaborative communities, Oracle Communicator features
presence and instant messaging capabilities integrated with
real-time voice and video and can interface with the public
switched telephone network (PSTN). Oracle Communicator is based on
SIMPLE (Session Initiation Protocol for Instant Messaging and
Presence Leveraging Extensions), an open standard that applies
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to streamline presence
registration, messaging, and managing of real-time sessions between
two or more participants. By adopting the SIMPLE standard, Oracle
Communicator provides complete interoperability with IP Multimedia
Subsystem (IMS) and SIP-based software products, equipment, and end
points. "Oracle Communicator is another milestone in our drive to
deliver the most complete, standards-based SDP solution to
communications service provides and enterprise customers," said
Vittorio Viarengo, vice president, Oracle. "Java developers and
ISVs can now build VoIP and other presence-enabled communications
services at an unprecedented rate by leveraging Oracle
Communicator's out-of-the-box functionality and the full
programmability of OCMS." Now featuring GIPS audio technology,
Oracle Communicator delivers excellent quality of service (QoS) for
VoIP applications. In addition, Oracle Communicator is rebrandable,
which allows CSPs and enterprise customers to use their own
packaging and branding. This enables them to create custom VoIP,
Video and messaging solutions that promote their own brand into the
market. GIPS' technology is the de-facto standard for audio and
multimedia technology in the communications industry. Recognizing
that high quality audio is crucial to ensuring a successful
customer experience with VoIP, Oracle integrated GIPS' audio
technology into Oracle Communicator. As a result, Oracle customers
can take advantage of the highest QoS VoIP solution available.
"GIPS' technology provides Oracle with the highest quality voice
product available in the VoIP industry," said Global IP Solutions'
CEO and President, Gary Hermansen. "Oracle demands quality and GIPS
is delighted to be a part of Oracle's SDP offering." Pricing and
Availability Oracle Communicator is generally available as part of
the Oracle Communication and Mobility Server. The software is
available for free evaluation and can be downloaded at:
