BMW Extends Plant Suspension to April 30 Due to Soft Market Demand

BMW AG will keep production suspended at its European and North
American plants until April 30 with the coronavirus hurting demand,
the company said Monday.
"There is still underlying demand, but since showrooms are
closed, customers can neither order cars nor take delivery of them
as usual," the German car maker said. "It will therefore take even
longer for the markets to recover."
BMW began shutting down plants throughout Europe in March after
the coronavirus shuttered operations in China. The virus also
prompted auto manufacturers to implement measures to protect
workers from infection.
BMW said its Chinese joint venture partner BBA resumed
production at its Shenyang plants on Feb. 17.
