LONDON--Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (RR.LN) said Wednesday that it has appointed Andreas Schell as chief executive officer of unit Rolls-Royce Power Systems, which manufactures engines and propulsion systems for ships, power generation, heavy land, rail and defense vehicles.

Mr. Schell, who currently serves as vice president of digital strategy at UTC Aerospace Systems, will join Rolls-Royce later in 2016 and take up the role from Jan. 1, 2017. He succeeds Ulrich Dohle, who is retiring.
