PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- A special train operated by Norfolk Southern Railway Company will visit five Northeastern cities September 12-16 to promote Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response (TRANSCAER(R)), a nationwide program to increase community understanding of the safe transportation of hazardous materials and the importance of emergency planning. The schedule for the 2005 TRANSCAER Whistle-Stop train will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as follows: * Sept. 12 -- Buffalo, N.Y. (Norfolk Southern, 50 Bison Parkway) * Sept. 13 -- Binghamton, N.Y. (Norfolk Southern, Depot Street, off State Street) * Sept. 14 -- Linden, N.J. (Conrail, W. Linden Avenue) * Sept. 15 -- Allentown, Pa. (Norfolk Southern, Riverside Drive in Bethlehem) * Sept. 16 -- Hagerstown, Md. (Norfolk Southern, 1265 Maryland Ave.) At each location, state and local emergency planning committees, emergency responders and government officials can participate in hands-on drills and training sessions. Railroad training tank cars, specialized emergency response vehicles and over-the-road tank trucks will be on display. This is the sixth TRANSCAER train Norfolk Southern has sponsored since 1994.
