AstraZeneca PLC said Tuesday that its Covid-19 vaccine is 92%
effective against hospitalizations of the Delta, or Indian, variant
after two shots, without any deaths.
The pharmaceutical giant also said the vaccine is 86% effective
in reducing hospitalizations in the Alpha, or Kent, variant with no
deaths reported.
Vaccine effectiveness against symptomatic disease was 74%
against the Alpha variant and 64% against the Delta variant,
AstraZeneca added.
"The data show that the vaccine will continue to have a
significant impact around the world given that it continues to
account for the overwhelming majority of supplies to India and the
Covax facility," Executive Vice President, BioPharmaceuticals
R&D Mene Pangalos said.
