I think the $8/kg is realistic may be even high for H2 coming from Georgia when power is cheap.

$15/kg for trucking I think I have seen, was it a promotion I don't know. I have seen far higher for passenger cars

Would welcome your views

Plug Power surges as big investor boosts stake
Oct. 11, 2024 6:05 PM
https://seekingalpha.com/news/4158040-plug-power-surges-as-big-investor-boosts-stake

Plug Power (NASDAQ:PLUG) closed +7.6% on Friday after disclosing Norway's central bank raised its stake in the company to ~88M shares, nearly 8% of total shares outstanding, up from ~26M shares at the end of Q2, according to an SEC filing.

Norges Bank, whose total assets include more than $500B in U.S. stocks, traditionally has been interested in sustainability-linked investments.

Plug Power (PLUG) shares have slumped 72% YTD, and Friday's big gain could not even fully make up for losses incurred during this week.

Banger - $8 /kg is a random number ?

Is $15 a random number ?

Do you know which one is closer to reality ?

uksausage uksausage 1 day ago
PLUGs strategy is exactly that get Texas and NYSTamp up and running and they will then start making a profit because their hydrogen costing say $8/kg to make can be sold for twice that commercially. They just need Louisiana (at full production by end of the year) to cover their own customer needs although because of transportation costs they will be still buying from Linde or Air products and selling some of their home made H2.
they can also start claiming some 45v credit to reduce the effective cost of production as well

BUT Texas and NYStamp cant get funding even with DOE loan guarantees so wont be ready for 15 months after they start, during which time they have to keep funding their loss making businesses from financing not from H2 sales.

almost every time ive seen shares being sold to an entity for less than true market value, it is some form of toxic financing...it is not a legit loan or investment...mostly its done via hedgefunds...

i dont know the details of fcel's deal but it generally involves selling shares at a 10 or 20% discount...the buying entity immediately begins to sell those shares for the immediate profit...they sell to their clients in private transactions, telling them its a great investment or to whoever cares to buy or on the open market...the benefit to fcel is that they get a bunch of cash and if the buyer is able to arrange private transactions, the pps doesnt take a big hit...

in fcel's case, its a bank and the shares are restricted...there are rules for restricted shares...but then, its also a foreign bank...and maybe there will be a third party involved...perhaps based in the Cayman Islands...

who knows?...will have to wait and see how it actually is structured...

only thing i can see so far is that it does not sound like a bank investing...it is bank financing...and given that the shares will be sold for less than what they are worth, its smacks of toxicity...

Maybe, it is like hedging your bet? If they provide the backstop and Plug can get another plant or two up and producing income, maybe it would be enough to actually get them to being profitable. It might not make sense to you, but it does to me. What do others here think. ?

Why would Norge do both Debt and Equity ?

That makes no sense. If Norge wanted to do both, there is a financial engineering solution to do so without creating two separate transactions.

Just wait, instead of silly speculation, until the real story is revealed ...

Think Toxic Finance as I said last week.

scubastevemd scubastevemd 1 day ago
So, do you think this Norwegian bank, since it just invested in Plug, will also back the 20% of the loan? It would seem to make sense to protect their investment. So, this could turn out a good move by Plug for a change or am I delusional?
👍️ 1
uksausage uksausage 1 day ago
not a matter of backing the loan but providing it. DOE is backing it
I suspect the only way they will get a loan to build is to include the bank as a partner in the enterprise and share profits going forward.
With DOE only backing 80% the financier is taing a big risk and will need a payout - not just in interest rate but may be in the results.
👍️ 2
scubastevemd scubastevemd 1 day ago
Figured that also when the stock went up and then collapsed. The financier sets up a short knowing once announced the price will go down. This covers them in case the price goes down, which is usually does. So, who did they buy shares from if this was not an increase done by another offering? Maybe the ATM? How does this increase our cash position?

Banger - Part of what you say makes perfect sense.

Waiting until after the PLUG Super-Duper Symposium and all of the HYPE surrounding this Mega Event is the smart move. Unfortunately, the last few Symposiums were NON-Events.

What doesn't make sense is, if Plug is having a decent quarter, why did they do that Lame/Expensive Sale / Lease Back deal ?

That smells to me like the Quarter is not as good as you think (and when have you ever over-estimated PLUG ?) .

That's why I think PLUG will do something TOXIC before Earnings which would be a Really BAD signal to the market.

Recall that I have called the last 5 debt/dilutions perfectly.
πŸ‘οΈ0
uksausage uksausage 2 days ago
I would hope they wait until after the mega symposium.
Q3 should have had reasonable cash flows from completed electrolyzer installations in Europe and deliveries from inventory to reduce the needed cash per quarter.

All will depend on if they have a financier for the Texas plant that the DOE will guarantee and just waiting for the close date. That could provide big influx of cash, until then the ATM is probably keeping the account topped up.

I am sure there will be a jar to provide your contributions at the symposium - please be generous as you depart the room

TOXIC FINANCE ?

It's about time PLUG raises more Cash . My guess is before the Quarterly Earnings.

I can't see PLUG dumping more shares on us below $2.00, so someone must be selling Paul some other TOXIC funds.

Can it be any worse than last month's sale/lease-back ?

Tomorrow afternoon would be an ideal time to announce Bad News. A holiday Friday, and PLUG has the weekend to buffer the impact.

so doing some basic DD seems they have a financing strategy in place. interestingly using money from Spain… and it is $6Bn not $Bn..

Perth, Western Australia, 10 September 2024 - Perth based Affinity Capital Group, a leading specialist investment advisory house focused on providing capital that drives transformational outcomes globally, announces it has been appointed as lead manager and strategic advisor to Allied Green Ammonia (AGA) to raise the c.US$6.5 billion (~A$10 billion) in finance required for the development and construction of its world scale green hydrogen and ammonia facility based in Gove, Northern Territory, Australia.
AGA’s facility is planned to produce 486 tonnes per day of green hydrogen for an annual output of 960,000 tonnes of green ammonia onsite at Nhulunbuy, Gove Peninsula. The facility will harness abundant renewable energy resources and world leading energy infrastructure to generate 4.75GW per hour of solar electricity, to offer a strategic supply of sustainably produced, low carbon e-fuels to Australia’s key trading partners, which is seeing strong growing global demand.
The AGA facility will be one of the largest of its kind globally. Green hydrogen produced onsite will help decarbonise the ammonia production process by displacing Steam Methane Reforming techniques and provide a reliable and secure supply of green ammonia for the region whilst playing a meaningful role in avoiding an estimated 2 million tonnes of global carbon emissions annually.
The AGA team has consistently demonstrated an exceptional ability in project development, delivering over US$15 billion in large-scale projects across various geographic and industrial sectors and operating multiple major ammonia projects. AGA’s management team has utilised its extensive inhouse capabilities to complete AGA’s pre-FEED and the project feasibility studies, with positive results.
AGA has also secured key partnerships from leading global technology, engineering and infrastructure companies who will work with AGA to fast-track development, and is currently in negotiations for pre- approval for c.70% of the EPC contract value from the Spanish Government Export Credit Agency CESCE for the development of the project.
AGA has also signed an offtake MOU with World Leading Ammonia trading Company Trammo, France which is expecting delivery of first product in Q4 2028.

JB, Henry Ma, of Accelera by Cummins (a leading engine and electrolyzer manufacturer with a long track record of projects around the world, and one of your favorite hydrogen companies), presented earlier today at the Mission Hydrogen webinar. What caught my eye is the customer - Purina. PLUG has been targeting the pet supply food chain for material handling due to the nature of the products - large heavy pallets moved by fork lifts everywhere.
Unless they are the new US customer we never found out about Nikola has beaten PLUG to them.

Currently, Jack, one truck is better than 10 for NKLA as they get more trials going with V 1.0 which loses $100k (?) per truck but lines up early orders and commitments for V2.0 in H2 2025 which will be profitable. Start with 1, then with 5-10 and then wait for the big commitment when V2.0 is available.
Girsky has better business mind than Andy IMHO

Another satisfied customer willing perhaps to pay a little bit more in order to reduce its carbon footprint (one FCEV truck is equivalent to eliminating the pollution of 23 cars).

Key quotes:

"This truck represents an exciting opportunity to test new technology and determine if it's feasible to scale."

"According to Nikola, one truck avoids 97 metric tons of CO2 tailpipe emissions per year on average β€” the equivalent of taking 23 passenger vehicles off the road for a year." (Source https://www.epa.gov/energy/greenhouse-gas-equivalencies-calculator)

That assumes the project is not dropped, delayed are more costly than expected. You cannot count on anything with Plug until it is paid for and even then, you have to guess if the deal was a money maker or just another drain of assets.
