                                 Board changes


Carpetright plc announces that it has agreed that Shena Winning will, for
personal and family reasons, relinquish the post of Finance Director and leave
the Company on 31 October 2002.

Lord Harris, Chairman and Chief Executive, commented "I would like to thank
Shena for her contribution and all her hard work over the last few years."

The Company is pleased to announce that Darren Shapland, FCCA, (35) will join
the Company as Finance Director with effect from 1 November 2002.  Darren has
worked in the retail sector for many years, currently for Superdrug Stores as
Finance Director and prior to that with the Burton Group.
