                    APPOINTMENT OF NON - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Carpetright plc is pleased to announce the appointment of Martin Toogood as a
Non-Executive Director with immediate effect.

Martin (55) is a professional retailer with extensive experience in many retail
sectors gained over the last 30 years. Most recently, whilst Chief Executive of
B&Q, the company was awarded 'Retailer of the Year' in 1998 and 'Retail Employer
of the Year' in 1999, by Retail Week. Verdict Research in 2000 described B&Q as
'Britain's most unassailable retailer' whilst under his stewardship.

Amongst Martin's other appointments is a directorship of Cadogan Leisure
Investments Ltd.
