MasterCard today announced that its 2015 Masters of Code™ global
hackathon series will continue its search for the best coders in
the world in San Francisco on August 22–23. San Francisco is the
seventh stop on this intense, 12-city global hackathon tour to find
the master artisans of our day: coders. Full event details,
including rules and registration, are available here.
Sponsored and hosted by MasterCard and organized by AngelHack,
the Masters of Code series features regional weekend-long events
that bring together the world’s top developers, designers and
entrepreneurs to take on the APIs supplied by MasterCard. Using
these APIs, teams look to create masterful prototypes that
demonstrate artful coding and design skills, while also
articulating clear business use cases.
Competitors in the San Francisco event will focus on ways to
increase social good by leveraging MasterCard’s Simplify Commerce
API to build apps aimed at improving communities via social
networks and their global reach. Examples of these apps could
include fundraising, event management or donation of goods.
“Social good is based on the belief that innovation and
technology can intersect to build solutions that improve the
world,” said Sebastien Taveau, Chief Developer Evangelist,
MasterCard Open API. “MasterCard has opened its technology to do
just that: encourage independent and enterprise developers from
across the globe to identify the ways to better their communities
using MasterCard APIs that fit today’s app and device-driven
world.”
The event will also feature an esteemed panel of judges who will
choose the winning team based on their innovation's impact, design,
creativity, simplicity and best usage of MasterCard’s APIs. The
judging panel will include:
- Alexander Niehenke, Principal, Scale
Venture Partners
- Eryc Branham, Chief Executive Officer,
Mission Hub LLC (MissionHUB)
- Sebastien Taveau, Chief Developer
Evangelist / VP, OpenAPI, MasterCard
- Michael Ducker, Group Product Manager,

Jean-Louis Gassée, General Partner at Allegis Capital, active
blogger and former Apple executive will deliver the keynote address
and discuss the opportunity - and ability - entrepreneurs and
developers have to drive social change through app development,
highlighting the importance of innovation with the intention to
improve the lives of others.
The 2015 Masters of Code hackathon series kicked off with its
first event in Sydney, followed by events in Hong Kong, Singapore,
Sao Paulo, Tel Aviv and Mexico City. Additional locations for the
Masters of Code series include Montreal, Istanbul, St. Louis, New
York, London and the Grand Finale in Silicon Valley.
The San Francisco winner will have the chance to compete against
master coders from the other regions for the $100,000 USD Grand
Prize. While in California, all winning regional teams will also be
awarded a MasterCard Priceless® experience before the final event
to ensure they are at their most relaxed and ready. For more
