Item 5.02. Departure of Directors or Certain Officers; Election of Directors; Appointment of Certain
Officers; Compensatory Arrangements of Certain Officers.
On December 1, 2017, Thomas J. Leanse notified The Macerich Company (the
Company) that he will retire from his full-time position as Chief Legal Officer on February 28, 2018. Mr. Leanse agreed to remain at the Company until a successor is in place and thereafter will work on several current
projects and advise on other matters as requested.
