Gateway Keeps It Simple With New Servers for Small Business Products Offer SATA Hard Drives, Embedded RAID and Latest Chipsets POWAY, Calif., May 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- One tower. One rackmount. One-processor systems. One point of accountability. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20020930/LAM050LOGO ) Gateway, Inc. is making life simpler for small businesses with the introduction today of a new entry-level server line offering two unique 1P systems -- the Gateway(R) 9115 and Gateway 9210. Both servers are easy to install and maintain, while providing maximum flexibility as a platform for email, print or file serving, supplemental storage, edge of network applications (web or cache server) or network infrastructure (DNS, DHCP or domain server). Built for small businesses, schools, corporate branch offices and government agencies, the servers offer features found in high-end systems, such as Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 processors, integrated RAID controllers and serial ATA (SATA) hard drives that scale up to 250 GB(1). Despite these complex capabilities, Gateway has kept the lineup of entry-level servers simple -- giving customers the option of upgrading either of the two systems with more SATA drives for capacity, SCSI drives for performance or RAID controllers for redundancy as their businesses grow. "The sheer number of product options within many vendors' entry-level categories makes choosing a server a confusing task for small businesses," said Tim Diefenthaler, director of server products at Gateway. "Gateway is keeping things simple by offering a focused set of well-targeted, easy-to-deploy, entry-level systems at low price points. And Gateway's new servers allow plenty of expansion as customers' performance needs expand." A rack-optimized system built in a slim, 1U form factor, the Gateway 9115 offers features such as: * Support for Intel(R) Celeron(R) and Pentium(R) 4 processors -- including an 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB) to provide power for demanding applications. * Up to 4 GB of DDR400 ECC memory -- high-performance memory that seamlessly corrects errors. * Two integrated Ethernet ports -- including one Gigabit port and one 10/100 port, as well as an additional available port via PCI slot expansion. * Dual port SATA controller -- supporting new, high-capacity SATA storage technology with improved throughput. * Integrated RAID 0/1 -- built into the motherboard to provide redundancy and protect valuable data through striping and mirroring in Windows. * Integrated management controller (mBMC) -- enabling out-of-band management features; integrated with Gateway Systems Manager 3.0. * Expandability options -- two hard drive bays for standard SATA drives or optional SCSI drive installations, as well as removable CD and floppy drives, which can be replaced with an additional hard drive for RAID 5 performance. The Gateway 9115 is priced at $899 and offers a standard Celeron processor, 80 GB SATA drive and embedded RAID 0/1 for Windows. An Intel Pentium 4 processor upgrade and additional SATA or SCSI drives are also available, and the system supports Windows Server 2003 Enterprise, Standard, Web and Small Business Server Editions. The 9115 will officially ship in two to three weeks. A cost-effective tower model, the Gateway 9210 replaces Gateway's current 920 tower system and offers all features from the Gateway 9115, in addition to: * Added expandability -- three hard drive bays for SATA drives or optional SCSI drives, both of which can be configured for RAID 5 performance, as well an optional tape backup unit for data protection. Three additional PCI slots also ensure headroom for future growth. * Tool-less chassis -- allowing easy serviceability for simplified access to internal components and peripherals. The Gateway 9210 is priced at $499 and offers a standard Celeron processor, 80 GB SATA drives(2) and embedded RAID 0/1 for Windows. An Intel Pentium 4 processor upgrade and additional SATA or SCSI drives are also available, as well as four-port SATA RAID controllers. The system supports Windows 2003 Standard, Web and Small Business Server Editions. The 9210 will officially ship in two to three weeks. Both servers include Gateway's standard one-year, on-site, next-business day, parts-and-labor limited warranty, upgradeable to three years upon request(2). In addition, Gateway's optional four-hour, on-site response service is also available for customers wanting a heightened level of support(2). Finally, the company offers 24x7 phone support through a dedicated team of certified technicians(3). Gateway is a leading branded integrator of technology solutions.
