Security-conscious government agencies and corporations that need
to protect applications, email, files and web sites from
unauthorized users can benefit from the secure fingerprint sensor
of the Gateway 450+ -- an optional feature built into the
notebook's palmrest. Educational institutions can use the
fingerprint sensor to authenticate identities for test-taking and
distance learning verification. The biometrics sensor also protects
against confidential data loss should the notebook be lost or
stolen. Organizations can use the Gateway 450+ with fingerprint
reader to help reduce IT help desk calls related to password resets
thanks to the notebook's ability to match e-mail, website and
application passwords to fingerprints. The device supports fast
user switching, so a single finger swipe allows instantaneous and
secure access to privileged data and passwords for that individual
user -- a benefit when a single PC is accessed by multiple users.
"This is a security measure that is easy to implement and does not
require a major transition to a new technology like smart cards,"
said Mike Stinson, vice president and general manager, mobile
products group, Gateway, Inc. "And while the 450+ notebook
addresses the hot topicof keeping data safe, it also addresses the
important issue of minimizing ongoing IT costs associated with
password management." The Gateway 450 series continues to be a
popular product among many government, corporate and education
customers, due to its rich feature set and platform stability since
its introduction in April 2002. It is available with an optional
port replicator that is backwards compatible with existing Gateway
450 models. Weighing only 6.11 pounds(1) and measuring only 1.3
inches thin, the 450+ is a thin and light notebook that fits into
virtually any workspace. It also includes a magnesium lid casing
for added appeal. The new Gateway 450+ provides high mobile
performance with Intel Centrino(2) mobile technology including an
Intel Pentium-M 1.5GHz, 1.6GHz or 1.7GHz processor. Gateway
customers can stay connected wirelessly in the office or on the
road thanks to a choice of optional integrated Wi-Fi(TM) solutions
including 802.11b, 802.11b/g, or 802.11a/g technology. In addition,
the notebook provides exceptional battery life of up to 5 hours
using the 8 cell Lithium Ion battery upgrade.(3) The
feature-enhanced Gateway 450+ offers up to a 15-inch UXGA display
and comes standard with an ATI(TM) Radeon Mobility 9600
Graphicscard with the choice of 64MB or 128MB of DDR video memory
to vibrantly showcase applications, graphics and video. Like all of
the Gateway 450 notebooks, the 450+ boasts a modular design, giving
computer users the option to bring along the necessary
configuration when on the road. The modular bay can support an
additional battery, floppy drive or second hard disk drive. It also
comes with the choice of a CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo
drive, a DVD-R/-RW/CD-RW recorder or multi-format 4x
DVDR/RW/CD-RW recorder. The Gateway 450 notebook is available
with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home or Windows XP Pro. The new
notebook provides a great value at starting prices of only
$1,799.99. GSA pricing is also available. The Gateway 450+ is

service and support options are also offered.(4) The Gateway 450+
