Business Wire
ENDESA (NYSE:ELE): -- Snet, ENDESA's French subsidiary, has been
authorised by the French government to build a 10 MW wind farm in
the region of Picardie, in northern France, which is slated to come
online in the second half of 2006. -- Planned capex stands at Euro
11 million. -- Revenues from the wind farm are guaranteed in
accordance with the decree dated 8 June 2001 which stipulates that
EDF must purchase all energy produced by wind farms. -- In addition
to this initiative, there are another four wind farms planned for
France, with total capacity of 45 MW, and which are currently at
the stage of obtaining authorisation. Snet, ENDESA's (NYSE:ELE)
French subsidiary, has been authorised by the French government to
build its first wind farm in France. The farm will have installed
capacity of approximately 10 MW and is to be located in the region
of Picardie, in northern France. The project will entail investment
of around Euro 11 million. The site has wind energy potential of
around 2,500 equivalent hours per annum at full throttle. Revenues
from the wind farm are guaranteed in accordance with the decree
dated 8 June 2001 which stipulates that EDF must purchase all
energy produced by wind farms. Snet will start work immediately on
the preliminary task of selecting the kind of wind turbine to be
installed, as well as carrying out the construction work necessary
to build the farm and connect it to the grid. It is scheduled to
come on-stream in the second half of 2006. Snet has requested
authorisation for another four wind parks in France with total
capacity of 45 MW, all within the framework of ENDESA's Strategic
Plan which envisages the installation of 200 MW of wind capacity in
France through 2008. To this end, Snet continues to seek out new
opportunities, with the strategic target of minimising risk during
the development phase. These initiatives reaffirm ENDESA's
commitment to the environment and sustainable development, a matter
in which it is in line with the French government's policy target
of generating 21% of energy consumption from renewable sources, in
accordance with the European Directive. In addition, this
initiative signifies Snet's first venture into renewable energies
and will also contribute to profitability. Snet is developing this
business with the support of ENDESA Cogeneration and Renewables
(ECYR), a wholly-owned ENDESA subsidiary, with which it has signed
a technical assistance agreement. For additional information please
