INDIANAPOLIS, July 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- To emphasize
the importance of a support system in diabetes management, Lilly
Diabetes and NASCAR XFINITY Series driver Ryan Reed will kick off the My Diabetes Pit
Crew Sweepstakes today in association with the Lilly Diabetes
250, the NASCAR XFINITY Series race in Indianapolis. The sweepstakes hopes to
encourage people with diabetes to acknowledge the people who have
supported them throughout their diabetes journey.
A total of 24 entrants will be chosen at random to be honorary
members of Reed's pit crew during the three NASCAR XFINITY Series
races in November, which is American Diabetes Month. Eight people
will be chosen for each race. Winners will have the option to have
their names displayed on the fire suit worn by a member of Reed's
racing pit crew and their pictures to appear in a mosaic on Reed's
pit wall. Winners will receive educational materials from Lilly to
help them manage their diabetes, along with a congratulatory phone
call from Reed. Following the November races, winners will receive
their personalized fire suit patch signed by Reed.
"The My Diabetes Pit Crew Sweepstakes not only
positions winners as role models, it gets all people with diabetes
thinking about what they can do to better manage their disease,"
said Kevin Cammack, senior marketing
director, U.S., Lilly Diabetes. "Through the sweepstakes, we hope
people with diabetes will think about the importance of a strong
support system in the overall management of their diabetes."
To enter the My Diabetes Pit Crew Sweepstakes, people
with diabetes can fill out an online entry form on the Drive to
Stop Diabetes℠ website before September 18,
2015, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
The sweepstakes is open to all legal U.S. residents age
18 years (at least 19 in AL and NE and 21 in MS) or older with
type 1 or type 2 diabetes (some state limitations may apply).
Winners will be notified on or about October
1, 2015.
Since his diagnosis, Reed has joined forces with Lilly Diabetes
and the American Diabetes Association on Drive to Stop Diabetes℠,
an initiative that encourages people to take action to understand
their risk for diabetes or, if they have diabetes, work with their
doctor to manage it. Through Reed's example, children and adults
with diabetes can see that the disease doesn't have to stand in the
way of achieving their goals.
"Diabetes is a tough diagnosis, but with the right support
system, you can properly manage the disease and continue to pursue
your dreams," explains Reed. "My team members, family and doctor
have been instrumental in helping me manage my diabetes."
The My Diabetes Pit Crew Sweepstakes builds on the
success of the My Diabetes Pit Crew video series, which
featured the people who support Reed on the track (his NASCAR pit
crew) and off the track (his diabetes pit crew) and the role each
plays in maintaining his car and his health.
