Acuity Brands Named a Visionary in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Indoor Location Services, Global
February 19 2019 - 1:00PM
ATLANTA – February 19, 2019 – Acuity Brands, Inc.
(NYSE: AYI) today was named as a Visionary in this year’s Gartner
Magic Quadrant* for Indoor Location Services, Global.
The cited innovation, AtriusTM Software
Solutions, uses technology embedded in Acuity Brands’ smart LED
luminaires. The operational savings that result from replacing
conventional lighting with more energy-efficient, smart LED
luminaires enables customers in retail, healthcare and
transportation fund use cases such as visitor analytics, customer
engagement, employee or customer journey-mapping and asset tracking
that are available using Atrius technology.
The Gartner Magic Quadrant study evaluates the
strategies and current capabilities of vendors providing indoor
location services globally. In the case of Acuity Brands’ services,
indoor positioning and navigation are enabled by Visible Light
Communication and Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) communication
technologies embedded in the luminaire and accessed via software
installed on mobile devices, while tracking and management of
physical assets are enabled with tags that use BLE communication.
Both signals combined provide the ability to transmit data over
extended distances in addition to communicating with the sensors.
Acuity Brands works with its Fortune 500 customers to develop
solutions, ensuring the Atrius Software Solutions and supporting
products evolve to support customer-specific requirements.
“Acuity Brands has been laying the groundwork
for this innovation through research and development and
acquisitions over the past decade,” said Greg Carter, Senior Vice
President Connected Building Software for Acuity Brands Lighting.
“We are fully committed to expanding the capabilities of our
scalable solution and are excited about our position as a Visionary
on the quadrant in this market.”
Atrius solutions are available for big box
retail, grocery, aviation, healthcare, office and other buildings
and spaces. By leveraging the data analytics and insights garnered
from operation of a space, Acuity Brands’ technologies can deliver
benefits to improve performance. Building performance improvements
include energy savings that can be realized from Acuity Brands’
solutions that manage and integrate HVAC, lighting control systems
and LED luminaires. Business improvements include enhanced space
utilization and asset tracking, while also offering occupants more
direct control over their office environments.
“We have a strong team and an extensive partner
network whose combined efforts have helped solidify our market
leading position. Our team is focused on driving the digital
innovation and expansion of this platform by meeting the needs of
our customers,” said Vinod Kashyap, Director of Product Market for
IoT for Acuity Brands Lighting. “We believe Acuity Brands is the
clear market leader and growing each month, demonstrating the
ability of our solution to scale.”
The Atrius indoor location service solution
comprises: Atrius-Ready Sensory Network (ASN), local network
hardware, Atrius Software Services, the Atrius Cloud and
Browser-based Dashboards (analytics). An ASN includes embedded
sensors, Visible Light Communication technology and BLE technology
radios, which receive signals to calculate the X, Y position of a
location tag or smart device. Additionally, Atrius offers Software
Development Kits (SDKs) on both Android™ and Apple® iOS operating
systems for building mobile applications.
