Microsoft Corp. Co-Founder Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda, are
divorcing after 27 years of marriage.
"After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our
relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage," Mr.
and Ms. Gates shared on both their personal Twitter accounts on
Monday. They will continue to work together through their
foundation.
The pair started the nonprofit Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
in 2000, for which they are both co-chairs and trustees.
Mr. Gates stepped down from the board of Microsoft last year to
focus more on his philanthropic efforts. In 2008, he began scaling
back his involvement in the day-to-day operations of the
company.
He founded Microsoft in 1975 with his childhood friend Paul
Allen.
The couple got married in 1994 and have three children.
