London Stocks Seen Opening Little Changed on Caution Before US
Jobs Data
0747 GMT - The FTSE 100 index is expected to open little
changed, down around 3 points, according to IG, having closed on
Thursday at 7558.49, as trade turns cautious ahead of U.S. monthly
nonfarm payrolls data due at 1330 GMT. "Asian markets were weaker
overnight, as the rally cooled in anticipation of today's nonfarms
payroll report," IG analysts say in a note. However, stocks are
still higher for the week, with the FTSE 100 up around 1%, helped
by Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's speech earlier this week
where he signaled that the pace of rate increases could slow in
December. IG also points to reports that China's Covid-19
restrictions could be eased in the coming days, likely boosting
risk assets. (jessica.fleetham@wsj.com)
