FTSE 100 Falls as Mining And Energy Shares Drop
0756 GMT - The FTSE 100 falls 0.3% to 7208 points with mining
and energy stocks leading the decline. Mining stocks including
Antofagasta, Anglo American and Glencore fall on lower copper
prices while energy shares Harbour Energy, BP and Shell drop as
Brent crude declines. J Sainsbury shares rise 1.9% after the
supermarket chain maintained its full-year outlook as first-quarter
sales fell, although in line with expectations amid a cost of
living crisis. "Despite something of a relief bounce in opening
exchanges, the share price has reflected the company's current
travails, having dropped by 23% over the last year, as compared to
a marginal gain of 1% for the wider FTSE 100," Interactive Investor
analyst Richard Hunter writes. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
