Business Wire
Unilever United States is voluntarily recalling a limited
quantity of Lipton, Knorr, and LeGoût chicken products that contain
chicken from a supplier, which issued a recall on its poultry for
potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
This limited voluntary recall is being conducted with the
knowledge of the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the
U.S. Department of Agriculture (U.S.D.A.). (Recall Number:
094-2019)
The recalled products include certain dried chicken soup mixes
with specific best by dates. A complete list of affected products,
Consumer UPC codes, and best by dates can be found here. No other
Lipton, Knorr, or LeGoût products are affected.
Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause
listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older
adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women
and their newborns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk
groups are affected.
Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck,
confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by
diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An invasive infection
spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the
infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery
or life-threatening infection of the newborn. In addition,
listeriosis can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in
older adults and persons with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis
is treated with antibiotics. Persons in the higher-risk categories
who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating
potentially contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the
health care provider about eating the food.
To date, no illnesses have been reported related to this recall.
Unilever is recalling the products out of an abundance of
caution.
The products were manufactured in the United States and Canada.
The products were distributed nationwide in the U.S. and reached
consumers through retail stores and professional kitchens.
Consumers who have purchased any of the listed products with the
affected UPC and date codes should not consume them. Consumers
should discard the products or return them to the point of
purchase. Please call 866-289-6076 for further information
24/7. Consumer services representatives are also available Monday
through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern time.
