Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAIC) again
joined forces with Feeding America® to help provide meals to people
in need, address food waste, and promote awareness of the issue of
hunger. During Hunger Action Month™ in September, SAIC raised
$205,638 in employee donations and company contributions, the
equivalent of 2,056,380 meals for Americans facing hunger.
During the Give A Meal Team Challenge, SAIC employees hosted
creative events designed to raise money for Feeding America and
increase awareness of hunger in the local communities. Throughout
the month, employees wore orange in support of Hunger Action Month
while volunteering at local food banks and food pantries, including
many that are members of the Feeding America network of 200 food
banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs.
“Each year, I look forward to Hunger Action Month and the
opportunity it brings to serve alongside my SAIC colleagues,
raising funds for combating hunger and volunteering across the
country. It is inspiring to meet our local partners and learn more
about how they are creating more efficient and effective ways to
distribute food to people in need,” said Tom Wofford, SAIC senior
vice president of Internal Audit and the company’s executive
champion for Hunger Action Month.
Through its Citizenship and Community Relations program, SAIC
builds upon the talent, creativity, and passion of its employees
and their families to give back to local communities. SAIC
maintains strategic relationships with non-profit organizations
that focus on military and veterans, community wellbeing, STEM
education, and environment and sustainability. Feeding America is
one of the company’s key community wellbeing partners.
“One in nine people face hunger in America, including more than
11 million children. Since our partnership began six years ago,
SAIC has helped Feeding America provide more than 11 million meals
for people in need,” said Lauren Biedron, vice president of
corporate partnerships at Feeding America. “Feeding America is
grateful for SAIC and its employees for their commitment to
fighting hunger.”
