May 22, 2018 -- ADVFN Crypto NewsWire -- On top of what they’re
already doing with a Blockchain-based delivery system, Walmart has
reportedly finished the paperwork for a patent for the next
Blockchain-based Ebay. While such an idea means that Walmart is
already moving into a space with other players, none of said
players are a multi-national retailer with years of success under
its belt.
The specifics of the future service
include the ability to immutably keep record of all customer
purchases on the marketplace in a Blockchain ledger, which would
therefore also act as a record of ownership for the customer,
related to the products that he or she aims to sell.
It might be better, in this case,
to say re-sell because as was mentioned above, this platform is
meant to be a large scale, Blockchain version of Ebay. In its
specific language, the patent also states the importance of
providing a reliable, firm-backed platform to enable customers to
do this. In saying this, it appears clear that they are, to some
extent, throwing a bit of doubt Ebay’s way, though this is mostly
supposition at this time.
On top of this goal of being the
nation’s new trusted online re-seller, Walmart adds in the same patent that it
hopes to stay ahead in its industry’s race towards what it terms
“non-traditional” shopping mechanisms. A key example of this would
be a company like Instacart, which connects traditional grocers and
retailers with the ability to have their goods delivered to
customers’ homes.
All of this is well and good, but
you might be wondering at this point: when does Walmart plan to
actually put this platform into action? According to a report by Cointelegraph, the
start date for the product is as of yet, undetermined but it most
likely hinges on the successful implementation of Walmart’s
special delivery system.
