RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* has
expanded Fixed Wireless Internet1 to homes and small
businesses in certain rural and underserved locations across seven
new counties.
Residents and businesses can sign up for service today in parts
of Alamance, Alexander, Caswell, Duplin, Henderson, Robeson and Wake counties.
The service is available at eligible locations in the
Fairmont, Gibsonville, Hendersonville, Hiddenite, Maxton, Mount
Olive, Orrum, Rowland, and Snow
Camp communities.
We had previously announced availability of the service in parts
of Chatham, Cleveland, Iredell, Pender, Rockingham, Rutherford, and Wayne counties.
"I am glad to see the expansion of high-speed internet service
in North Carolina
and appreciate the creative approaches being taken by private
industry to reach the more rural areas of our state,"
said NC Department of Information Technology Secretary
Eric Boyette. "This technology will
have a significant impact for individuals' lives and
for North Carolina."
This follows the launch of Fixed Wireless Internet in parts of
North Carolina in June as part of
our FCC Connect America Fund commitment. We plan to provide access
to over 1.1 million locations by 2020. In North Carolina alone, we have committed to
providing access to more than 13,000 locations by 2020, reaching
more than 40 percent of that goal by the end of this year.
"With this innovative service, we are working to close the
connectivity gap in North
Carolina," said Venessa
Harrison, president of AT&T North Carolina. "Access to
fast and reliable internet is a game changer in today's world. This
service will bring additional opportunities for more customers in
more parts of our state."
Between 2014 and 2016, AT&T invested nearly $1.8 billion in its wired and wireless networks
in North Carolina.
Our Fixed Wireless Internet service delivers a home internet
connection with download speeds of at least 10Mbps and upload
speeds of at least 1Mbps. Customers can download, surf and stream
their favorite movies or television shows. The connection comes
from a wireless tower to a fixed antenna on customers' homes or
businesses. This is an efficient way to deliver high-quality,
high-speed internet to customers, many getting access to high-speed
internet for the first time.
In addition to North Carolina,
the service is available to residents and businesses in parts of
Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Ohio, South
Carolina, Tennessee,
Texas, and Wisconsin.
To determine Fixed Wireless Internet eligibility, interested
consumers may call toll-free 1-877-990-0041. We'll continue to
provide updates as the service becomes available at more
locations.
