Regulatory Approval for Radium ProActivTM Reagents
The Directors of Virotec International Ltd ("Virotec") (AIM: VTI) are pleased to
announce that Virotec has now, after 18 months of testing, received all
regulatory approvals and permits for the use of our Radium ProActivTM reagents,
which forms part of our ViroFlowTM Technology (the "Technology"), for the
treatment of drinking water in South Carolina, United States of America.
At a recent public meeting held in South Carolina and sponsored by the
Department of Heath and Environmental Control ("DHEC"), the products were
introduced to customers of the Gilbert-Summit Rural Water District as the
solution to their problem of naturally occurring radium found in their ground
water. The representative from DHEC told the meeting that Virotec's Technology
"is a simple, effective, and efficient process for reducing and maintaining
Radium concentrations in drinking water below regulatory Maximum Contamination
Levels", that it is "the best alternative available in South Carolina", and that
"Gilbert-Summit would be the first community in South Carolina to have an
effective means of removing Radium contamination from drinking water."
Negotiations are well advanced through our recently formed joint venture company
Virotec AquaSolve LLC ("Virotec AquaSolve") for the introduction of the
Technology to a number of wells in the area. Virotec AquaSolve is 66.7% owned
by Virotec and 33.3% owned by CW Partners, part of the Wade Craven Group.
Establishment of Virotec AquaSolve followed an extensive amount of work
conducted by both parties to achieve National Sanitation Foundation ("NSF")
certification in the USA (as being able to be used in the treatment of drinking
water) and to receive approval from DHEC for the use of the patented reagents.
It is proposed that each drinking water installation to adopt the Technology
will be licenced, with fees to be based principally on the amount of water to be
treated. Additional fees will be earned from ongoing replenishment of Radium
ProActivTM reagents in the filter systems.
The key features of the Radium ProActivTM product is that: -
* It is able to reduce the level of radioactive radium in water from up to
five times above the allowable limit to below ten times this limit; and
* The spent product passes all the appropriate leachate tests.
The Executive Chairman, Brian Sheeran stated "The statements made by DHEC at the
public meeting confirm that our Technology is the best possible alternative for
South Carolina. This is a widespread problem, with more than a 1,000 drinking
water wells in the southern states of the USA currently affected by high levels
of naturally occurring radium contamination."
Mr Sheeran added "I would also like to take the opportunity of thanking Wade
Craven and his staff for their efforts in this matter. They have been
instrumental in working with our USA staff in ensuring the acceptance of the
Technology with the NSF, DHEC and the customer".
