Trading update and confirmation of interim results 
 
William Sinclair Holdings Plc (William Sinclair, the Company) is one of the 
UK's leading producers of commercial horticulture and branded garden products. 
The Company provides peat and fertiliser products to the retail and commercial 
sectors including Wyevale, Wilkinson, Tesco, Homebase and B&Q as well as an 
extensive range of independent garden centres. 
 
 William Sinclair is 
pleased to give the following trading update ahead of its interim results, which 
will be announced on 1 June 2009. 
 
 Trading for the six months to 31 March 2009 was in line with the Company's 
forecasts with strong sales during March. The subsequent Easter selling period, 
an important time for sales, continued the positive trend. The favourable 
weather in March and April has facilitated an early start to this year's peat 
harvest. 
 
 Bernard Burns, Chief Executive of William Sinclair, said: 
 
 "The strengthening sales performance provides evidence that people are 
spending more time in their gardens during the current difficult economic 
situation.  The increased fashion towards growing your own vegetables is having 
a further benefit to the Company. 
 
 "Additionally the recent BBC Gardeners World programme about alternatives 
to peat identified William Sinclair's New Horizon product as the best quality 
alternative on the market also supported sales growth."
