Morgan Est in #91.8m joint venture to upgrade Belfast's sewerage system
Morgan Sindall's infrastructure services provider Morgan Est with joint-venture
partner Belfast-based contractor Farrans (Construction) Ltd, has been awarded
the Stormwater Management Works contract, a three-year, #91.8 million scheme to
upgrade Belfast's sewerage system for Northern Ireland Water Service.
Under the terms of the deal, worth approximately #61.5 million to Morgan Est,
the companies will design, build, test and commission a 9.4 km tunnel, up to
four metres in diameter, under the city centre to the Duncrue Wastewater
Treatment Works. The contract also involves the construction of a terminal
pumping station housed inside a 40-metre diameter underground structure, a new
6,000m(3) stormwater tank and marine outfall.
Morgan Est is due to start work on the project this month
Paul Smith, chief executive of Morgan Sindall plc said: "We are delighted to
have been awarded one of Belfast's largest infrastructure projects which further
underlines Morgan Est's market leading position in the tunnelling sector."
