                 Statement RE Possible Approach to Luminar plc


Following recent speculation, Mintgate Investments Limited ('Mintgate'), an
investment vehicle led by Prestbury Investment Holdings Limited ('Prestbury'),
confirms that it is contemplating making an approach to Luminar plc, although no
final decision has been made.  In addition to Prestbury, West Coast Capital and
Investec Trust (Guernsey) Limited as trustees of the Tchenguiz Family Trust are
co-investors in Mintgate.  At the close of business on 16 March 2006, Mintgate
had an interest in 3,381,007 ordinary shares of Luminar plc, representing
approximately 4.6 per cent. of the issued share capital.
