                                 AGM Statement


Lord Harris, the Chairman and Chief Executive of Carpetright, today made the
following comments on current trading to shareholders at the Annual General
Meeting:


"Carpetright's preliminary results statement in June reported that like for like
sales for the first eight weeks of the current year were 4.2% ahead of last year
with total sales up 9.4%.   I am now pleased to announce that like for like
sales for the first 15 weeks are up 7.4% on last year, 11.7% in total, with
gross margin also ahead.


Our new cutting facility for 5 metre width carpets was operational from May and
the sale of those carpets has been so successful that we will be operating 24
hour, seven days a week cutting from 1 October.


Our move into European retailing is progressing well.  We have decided to trade
as Carpetright in Holland and Belgium and are pleased to announce that the first
three stores will be converted to Carpetright from the middle of September.  The
first delivery of cuts from our Rainham warehouses was successfully delivered in
August as planned.


I would like to thank all our staff for their contribution over the last
financial year."
