        Carpetright - clarification statement concerning possible offer



As stated in Carpetright's interim results announcement released on 11 December
2007, the consortium headed by Lord Harris and other members of the senior
Carpetright management team is continuing its discussions with the Independent
Committee of the Board of Carpetright. These discussions are at an advanced
stage and remain on the same terms as outlined in the announcement of 9 October
2007, in particular in relation to the proposed offer price of �12.50 per
Carpetright share. A report in a newspaper today erroneously stated that Lord
Harris would not change the proposed price. Although the consortium has no plans
to change the proposed price, Lord Harris in fact stated that the consortium
would not reduce the proposed price.
