CLIPPER VENTURES PLC
ANNOUNCES INCREASE IN POTENTIAL SPONSORSHIP REVENUES
Clipper Ventures Plc. ('Clipper Ventures'), the AIM
quoted yacht racing and branded marine events company, is
pleased to announce an increase in the Company's
potential sponsorship revenues and sponsorship brand
value, after receiving a larger than expected, sustained
media interest in the Company's 'Times Clipper 2000'
round-the-world yacht race, which started on its first
leg to Portugal, from Portsmouth, on Sunday.
The current #1.5 million aggregate value of the Company's
sponsorship portfolio (including cash, goods and
services), is now expected to exceed #5 million for the
next race, as a result of the enormous media interest the
'Times Clipper 2000' has received both prior to, and
during its start at the weekend. This bodes well when
compared with coverage received by similar races,
currently commanding much higher sponsorship revenues.
The Race is attracting extensive coverage on BBC, ITN,
Sky Television, and The Times newspaper, amongst others.
This is on top of the excellent coverage the Race
received following a recent event at St. Katherine's
Dock, in London, and at the more recent Southampton Boat
Show. On-going coverage will be well supported, with 6
journalists, including representatives of The Times and
the BBC, currently on-board the boats. Each of the eight
yachts competing is named after and is backed by the
cities of London, Leeds, Liverpool, Glasgow, Bristol,
Plymouth, Portsmouth and the Island of Jersey. This city-
versus-city concept has substantially increased the
competitive following and substantially increased media
interest in the event.
Clipper Ventures' current sponsorships include race title
sponsorship from the Times Newspaper, as well as 'stop-
over' sponsorship already sold to The Berkeley Festival
Waterfront Company (Portsmouth), the Algarve Tourism
Board (Vilamoura), Fox-Pitt Kelton (Hong Kong) and the
Island of Jersey. Clipper has also made signage, licensee
and official supplier agreements with Ladbrokes, Olympus,
Argosy Publishing and others. The Company's on-going
sponsorship agreements with other 'stop over' sponsors,
of which there are a number in the pipeline, will only
strengthen, as the Company and the Race continue to
receive this high level of media interest.
Sir Robin Knox-Johnson, Clipper Ventures' Chairman,
commented:
'We, at the Company, are delighted with the huge
interest that has been shown in the race, as it not only
exceeds our expectations, but far exceeds the coverage
normally afforded a yacht race of this nature. We are
delighted at the increased interest in sponsorship that
we are attracting, following this dramatic increase in
both the race's profile, and that of the Company.'
