Volkswagen AG delivered fewer vehicles last year than in 2020
despite high customer demand and full order books due to the
semiconductor shortage, but the group nearly doubled deliveries of
its battery-electric vehicles.
The German car maker said Wednesday that it had delivered
8,882,000 vehicles to customers around the world in 2021, a 4.5%
decline from 2020.
"2021 was very challenging due to global semiconductor
shortages," said Christian Dahlheim, head of Volkswagen Group
sales.
However, the group said it delivered 452,900 battery-electric
vehicles last year, up 95.5% from 2020.
"The doubling of our battery-electric volumes and the high
demand for all our vehicles clearly show that we are on the right
track. This is something we will build on in the current year and
continue to drive forward our transformation," Mr. Dahlheim
said.
