Zero Gravity Solutions, Inc. (ZGSI or “the Company”) (Pink
Sheets: ZGSI) and the International Institute of Tropical
Agriculture (IITA), a world leading research organization whose
mission is to facilitate solutions to overcome hunger and poverty
in Africa and the tropics, while preserving the natural resources
integrity, jointly announce the signing of a Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) between IITA and ZGSI’s wholly owned, UK-based
subsidiary, Zero Gravity Solutions Ltd (ZGSL). The objective of the
MOU is to implement specific research projects to increase
agricultural production, food security, and sustainable
agricultural intensification with a special emphasis on Sub-Saharan
Africa.
This research partnership will utilize ZGSI’s proprietary
BAM-FX™ technology, an ionic, micronutrient and mineral delivery
system for plants, which was originally developed for NASA’s human
spaceflight program and is now being applied to agriculture here on
Earth. Field trials with end user growers in multiple US States on
a variety of crops continue to be undertaken on an ongoing basis.
Preliminary results from these trials indicated that BAM-FX has a
beneficial effect on crop yield, including more robust rooting,
greater biomass, higher chlorophyll reactivity and increased sugar
content. BAM-FX is able to systemically deliver minerals such as
zinc and copper and other micronutrients into the cells of plants
without Genetic Modification.
“Our partnership with IITA, a member of the CGIAR consortium
supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The World
Bank, US Agency for International Development, (USAID) and numerous
countries throughout the world provides an opportunity for BAM-FX
to play a significant role in addressing the issue of ‘Hidden
Hunger’,” stated Harvey Kaye, Chairman of ZGSI. “The need to
bio-fortify the world’s food crops in the face of massive
population growth, global climate change and the depletion of
nutrients in soil is of paramount concern for the future of
humanity.”
Hugh Chambers, Managing Director of ZGSL, stated: “Food security
in our world of changing climate with a growing population is a
very serious challenge. I am delighted we are working with IITA;
together I believe we can develop a rapid response using BAM-FX and
meet the challenge head-on.”
Hilde Koper-Limbourg, Head of the Project Administration Office
at IITA, stated, “The collaboration with Zero Gravity Solutions is
in line with IITA’s commitment to science-driven improvements in
agriculture. BAM-FX could provide a valuable tool to help us
accomplish our goals of raising 11 million Africans out of poverty
and redirecting 7.5 million hectares of agricultural land to
productive and sustainable use.”
