Storage Elements digitiliti, a new paradigm in enterprise remote
data vaulting, today announced that Moss & Barnett have chosen
digitiliti for its remote backup and disaster recovery site. Moss
& Barnett is a full service, 70 attorney law firm, based in
Minneapolis. For over 100 years, the firms clients have come to
expect high standards of integrity, along with skilled, innovative,
and cost-effective legal services. As a result, Moss & Barnett
has grown with its clients, building a rich resource of
multi-specialty legal practitioners. Many of the firms
administrative functions are computerized, freeing attorneys to
devote more time to the practice of law. The result is a
sophisticated and cost-efficient approach. According to Cheryl
Thompson, Director of Information Technology at Moss & Barnett,
We were backing up to several devices, and generated several tapes
a night, but the firm only sent tapes offsite once a week. That
meant that the law firm risked losing a weeks worth of data. Since
working with digitiliti, were moving data offsite once a day,
cutting our risk considerably. Ease of use is another huge benefit
of digitiliti to Moss & Barnett, said Jon Murphy, Executive
Vice President of Sales. Backing up to the digitiliti vault saves
time and effort for the firm and for Network Administrator Bruce
Garber personally. Garber is their only IT administrator, so it
takes a lot off his hands, since its automatic. All backups are
set and they just run. Garber says, The software is
straightforward, and so is restoring data. Comparing the restore
process with digitiliti to restoring data from tape, Garber says
The restore process with digitiliti is quick, simple and much
faster than tape. The process of restoring from tape takes 10-15
minutes, if you can readily find the tape, and you cant do
anything else on the server while its restoring. With digitiliti,
it takes a couple of minutes. The law firm went with digitiliti
because of the wide-open architecture. digitiliti allows them to
hold whatever data they need, for as long as they want. Other
services may only let you hold a deleted email for example, for 10
days, because there is a limit to their space. With digitiliti
theres no limit. digitiliti provides security since the blocks of
data are high compressed and encrypted, along with savings since
customers only pay for the space they use. Moss & Barnett may
not have set a legal precedent on digitiliti, but has definitely
made the case for the company as its enterprise service provider.
