/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ballistic Recovery Systems, Inc.
(OTC:BRSI) (BULLETIN BOARD: BRSI) ( http://brsparachutes.com/ ), a
whole-airplane parachute company, is commemorating a milestone in
2005 with a 25th Anniversary celebration of the company and its
history. A special public ceremony and Open House was held at the
aviation safety companies South St. Paul airport headquarters
earlier this month. BRS CEO and President/COO Larry E. Williams
read letters of proclamation sent from various governmental
agencies congratulating the company for its innovative
achievements. Williams also praised the dedication and commitment
of the company's employees for its extraordinary contributions to
improving aviation safety. "Twenty-Five years in the business of
saving lives is a great accomplishment, anyone affiliated with BRS
should feel a sense of pride in this tremendous milestone," stated
Williams. BRS saved a company record 19 lives in 2004 and have been
credited with another five already this year including a dramatic
deployment on June 30th near Haverstraw, New York. That brings the
total number of BRS lives saved to 179. The innovation to design a
parachute to be fitted into an aircraft is a practical idea that
was talked about for nearly a century, but no one had done much
about developing a specific design until 1975, when Boris Popov of
St. Paul, Minnesota survived a 400 foot fall in a collapsed hang
glider. "As I fell," Popov explained, "I became most angry at my
inability to do something. I had time to throw a parachute. I knew
they existed but they hadn't yet been introduced to the hang
gliding community. Fortunately, many years of gymnastics training
prepared me for the water impact, and allowed me to swim to safety
minus a few fillings and a bruised kidney." Popov, the inventor,
now serves on the BRS board of directors. Last April, BRS was named
the recipient of Aviation Week's new Laureate Award as the top
business and General Aviation Company in 2004. Fittingly, Boris
Popov was one of the three top BRS executives present to be
recognized and receive the prestigious award. A special ceremony
honoring companies and individuals who have made lasting
contributions to the advancement of aerospace -- and to those who
applied aviation or space technologies to the betterment of
humankind. BRS is a South St. Paul, Minn., based company that
designs, manufactures and distributes whole-plane emergency
parachute systems for use on general aviation and recreational
aircraft. Since the early 1980's, BRS has delivered nearly 20,000
parachute systems to aircraft owners around the world including
over 1500 systems on the certified aircraft like the Cirrus Design
aircraft manufactured in Duluth, Minnesota. Actual documented uses
of these systems are credited with saving the lives of 179 people.
