Chicago's free daily celebrates its 5th anniversary with 33%
increase in copies CHICAGO, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
RedEye, Chicago's free daily newspaper, is celebrating its fifth
anniversary by moving aggressively to keep up with the
publication's growing demand among young professionals. Starting
today, RedEye increases its distribution from 150,000 copies to
200,000, a 33 percent increase. This will give RedEye, an edition
of the Chicago Tribune, the largest weekday newspaper distribution
in the City of Chicago. While most of the additional copies will be
distributed at existing and new locations throughout the city,
RedEye is also broadening its availability into the suburbs with a
presence at every Metra stop in Chicagoland -- providing
convenience for suburban commuter readers. RedEye has continued to
see tremendous growth in readership and advertising revenue since
its debut on October 30, 2002. Just last year, the newspaper
increased its daily circulation by 50 percent, and earlier this
year, it introduced a free home-delivered Saturday edition. Its
weekly readership has reached 700,000. "This milestone marks a
terrific five years for us," said Brad Moore, RedEye general
manager. "More importantly, it gives us a chance to welcome new
readers to RedEye and provide greater exposure for our growing
advertiser base." Chicago Tribune Company delivers news,
entertainment, useful information and advertising to Chicagoland
through a broad portfolio of print and electronic products and
services. The Chicago Tribune itself remains the most powerful
medium in the Chicago market, reaching 2.6 million adults on Sunday
and 1.8 million on weekdays. Today's RedEye announcement is the
most recent in a series of product expansions and enhancements by
the company. Hoy, Chicago's only Spanish-language daily newspaper,
recently announced an average 40 percent increase in its daily
circulation. Triblocal, the company's local community publishing
service, launched printed supplements that serve as companions to
its popular Web site where citizens can post stories, photos and
announcements for their suburban communities. Additionally,
chicagotribune.com and metromix.com underwent redesigns this summer
to include more prominent video placement to complement content and
interactive tools that enable users to share photos, videos, and
opinions. Chicago Magazine, the nation's leading city monthly, and
CLTV, Chicagoland's 24-hour cable news channel, serve additional
audiences and provide advertisers with more choices for
communicating their messages. About RedEye: RedEye is Chicago's
free daily newspaper, providing a concise and authentic take on
news, sports, entertainment and social buzz. RedEye, an edition of
the Chicago Tribune, has become the leading media choice in Chicago
for advertisers wanting to reach young professionals -- who are
short on time and long on disposable income. For more on RedEye,
