480 nonprofit organizations will each receive $10,000 grants for programs benefiting healthier, more equitable neighborhoods

As philanthropists across the world showcase the power of generosity on Giving Tuesday, The Rite Aid Foundation is celebrating nearly 500 local nonprofit organizations that uplift their neighborhoods every day with $4.8 million in total grant awards.

Each of The Rite Aid Foundation’s 480 KidCents charities will receive a $10,000 grant to support critical services, programs and initiatives to fulfill their missions. These grants will support the charities as they advance innovative and creative solutions focused on quality education, good health, food access, stable housing, income opportunities and other needs in Rite Aid neighborhoods.

KidCents grant recipients include food banks, homeless shelters, foster care organizations, child abuse centers and therapeutic care facilities for chronically ill children.

“These community-level nonprofits share The Rite Aid Foundation’s caring commitment to creating healthier and more equitable neighborhoods,” said Matthew DeCamara, executive director of The Rite Aid Foundation, a public charity established by Rite Aid in 2001. “All address the profound realities of racial inequities and health disparities through their own ways and strategies – and have done it during an unprecedented public-health crisis that has significantly interrupted normal programming, fundraising events and daily operations. We’re grateful to support their important work.”

The grants are funded through the KidCents customer fundraising program. Rite Aid customers enrolled in KidCents round up their purchases in-store and online, raising millions of dollars each year. The Rite Aid Foundation reinvests the customer contributions into local charities and missions to drive community change and support disadvantaged and underserved communities.

Examples of Charities Benefiting from The Rite Aid Foundation Grants

  • More than 50 Boys & Girls Clubs, which provide safe and fun places for kids to grow and thrive, in addition to life-enhancing programs and caring mentors, will receive $10,000 grants.
  • Connecting Kids to Meals (CKM) in Toledo, Ohio, provides hot meals at no cost to kids in low-income and underserved areas throughout a five-county region. CKM has been feeding kids for over 18 years, and just last year, served more than 875,100 nutritious meals to kids.
  • The Children’s Home of Stockton (CHS) in California, which offers short-term residential therapeutic programs for at-risk youth who have experienced abuse, homelessness, drug use and other traumatic events in their lives.
  • The Renaissance Youth Center in Bronx, New York, which uses education, music and sports to empower at risk inner-city youth to maximize their potential. One-hundred percent of students in its high-impact programs graduate high school.
  • Students Run Philly Style, a Philadelphia nonprofit that combines running and mentorship to support students and has helped participants navigate a pandemic, racial unrest and virtual schooling.

When the Rite Aid Foundation supports charities such as these, it’s ultimately helping to uplift individuals, families and communities so they may achieve a brighter future.

“Giving Tuesday reminds us that we can all be catalysts for positive change with actions big and small every day. Everyone has something to give, whether it’s their volunteer time, their expertise or their change,” DeCamara said. “We thank the millions of generous Rite Aid customers who have rounded up their purchases to support our KidCents charities. Their generosity is helping create healthy futures for everyone.”
