WALTHAM, Mass., April 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration
of National Volunteer Week (April
6-12), Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) is recognizing employees
dedicated to volunteerism, celebrating volunteers across our
communities, and recommitting to the core corporate value of
volunteerism via the company's partnership with US2020, the White
House-sponsored mentoring initiative.
Nearly 500 Raytheon employees were honored with the U.S.
Presidential Volunteer Service Award for their exemplary commitment
to volunteer efforts over the past year, while inspiring others to
engage in service. The award is an initiative of the Corporation
for National and Community Service and is administered by the
Points of Light Institute. All recipients are recognized with a
letter from President Barack Obama,
stressing, "We need a new era of responsibility – a recognition on
the part of every American that we have duties to ourselves, our
Nation, and the world."
Raytheon is a founding sponsor of the White House initiative,
US2020, a new organization and network committed to generating
large-scale, innovative solutions for the country's science,
technology, engineering and math (STEM) education challenge.
Organizations aligned with US2020 together have committed to
matching one million STEM mentors with students at youth-serving
nonprofits by the year 2020.
During National Volunteer Week, Raytheon employees across the
country are volunteering their time with MathMovesU initiatives:
mentoring robotics teams, judging cyber competitions, and mentoring
students in math and science subjects. Raytheon employees support
organizations such as MATHCOUNTS®, Junior
Achievement®, Engineering is Elementary®,
FIRST Robotics, and many local community organizations around the
world, dedicating nearly a half million hours of their time over
the past three years to volunteerism. For more information about
