FREMONT, CA , a global provider of multi-service network and voice exchange solutions for government and enterprise customers, announced today that its NX5010 multi-protocol, high speed network exchange InfiniBand platform has passed qualification testing conducted by TCB Technologies Corporation, a leading InfiniBand interconnect solutions vendor based in Japan. TCB's extensive tests were designed to validate the NX5010's reliability, scalability and performance for extending InfiniBand fabrics over very high speed Wide Area Networks (WANs). NET and TCB intend to launch a joint marketing and sales campaign to introduce the NX5010 to the Japanese market. TCB will also provide solutions engineering services to Japanese customers in need of InfiniBand extension over the WAN.

InfiniBand over the WAN, as delivered by NET's NX5010, provides a seamless method of interconnecting data centers and leveraging geographically isolated islands of processing power and storage resources. The NX5010 has been architected to serve the needs of the next-generation virtual data center, providing support for real-time database mirroring, grid computing and data access continuity applications between sites. With the ability to map InfiniBand fabrics and 10Gbps Ethernet LANs across 10Gbps/OC192c WANs at line-rate speeds, the NX5010's performance and scalability allows businesses to implement multi-site data center operations for simplified business continuity and disaster recovery planning. TCB will leverage its extensive experience in the InfiniBand space to engineer InfiniBand-over-WAN solutions for its extensive and marquee Japanese customer base using the NX5010.

"On its own, InfiniBand provides a ready solution for interconnecting within the data center, but it's a challenge to link geographically isolated data centers and enable end-user-transparent resource sharing across sites," says John Sandschulte, VP and GM of NET's Broadband Technology Group. "The NX5010 provides a ground-breaking InfiniBand-over-WAN solution to tie together data centers to create a virtual, global data center. The NX5010 has also been successfully deployed by multiple U.S. government agencies."

NET and TCB worked together to construct and conduct a comprehensive testing apparatus that demonstrated the capabilities and performance of NET's NX5010 solution for InfiniBand over the WAN. The test entailed connecting multiple geographically disparate servers over a single, virtual InfiniBand fabric to enable deployment of multi-site, multi-node redundant synchronous database applications. The NX5010 was also tested for resiliency through provisioning of primary and backup WAN links between sites, and validating that the NX5010 continued to emulate the InfiniBand fabric without interruption during WAN link outages.

"We are excited about introducing NET's highly resilient, high speed NX5010 InfiniBand-over-WAN solution to our Japanese customers. Our customers are very interested in the sheer flexibility and network design simplification that comes from being able to connect multiple disparate data centers to provide operational survivability and disaster recovery capabilities over distances of thousands of kilometers," says Akihiko Kasuya, General Manager of TCB's Server Solutions Division. "Extending InfiniBand over the WAN with NET's NX5010 delivered outstanding performance and reliability at an affordable price. We believe that these solutions will drive a new paradigm in datacenter architecture that will lower expense, provide redundancy, and deliver higher asset utilization."
