LyondellBasell Industries NV (LYB) said in a filing Friday it held talks with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in March over flaring at the company's Lake Charles, La., facility and is currently in settlement negotiations with the agency.

The company said it received an information request from the EPA on July 17, 2018 relating to flare operations at the Lake Charles facility. The company said its Lake Charles Plant produces polypropylene used in clothing, food packaging, household furnishings, automotive parts and home building materials.

In the filing, LyondellBasell said, "We reasonably expect monetary penalties could exceed $100,000."

A LyondellBasell spokesperson didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
