The recognition comes as the national homebuilder has built
more high-performance ENERGY STAR certified new homes than any
other builder, saving energy and supporting healthier indoor
environments
KB Home (NYSE: KBH) today announced that it has been named an
ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award Winner
for an unprecedented 10th consecutive year by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). KB Home has built 140,000
ENERGY STAR certified homes, more than any other builder in the
nation, which are estimated to have cumulatively reduced utility
bills for its homeowners by $780 million and CO2 emissions by 5
billion pounds. The company continues to demonstrate leadership in
making homeownership more affordable and helping to enhance both
indoor and outdoor environments with its energy-efficient homes
that include products designed to minimize exposure to airborne
pollutants and contaminants.
“I salute the 2020 ENERGY STAR award winners,” said Anne Idsal,
EPA Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Office of Air
and Radiation. “These leaders demonstrate how energy efficiency
drives economic competitiveness in tandem with environmental
protection.”
Today, every KB home is designed to be ENERGY STAR certified
thanks to the quality construction techniques and materials used,
including mechanical ventilation systems that provide fresh air and
reduce indoor air pollutants. By contrast, in recent years, only
one out of every 10 new homes built in America has been ENERGY STAR
certified. KB Home’s ENERGY STAR certified homes are at least 10%
more energy efficient than homes built to code and achieve a 20%
improvement on average, as tested and certified by a third-party
home energy inspector.
“We are proud to again be recognized by the EPA for our
consistent dedication to the ENERGY STAR program,” said Jeffrey
Mezger, KB Home Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer.
“KB Home integrates ENERGY STAR savings and performance into every
home we build, benefiting not only the environment, but also our KB
homeowners’ daily lives and budget. Additionally, as consumers
increasingly focus on healthy lifestyles, KB Home will continue to
offer ENERGY STAR certified homes that can help support their
health and well-being.”
KB Home is the only national builder to have earned awards under
all of EPA’s homebuilder programs, including ENERGY STAR,
WaterSense®, which establishes water efficiency standards, and
Indoor airPLUS, which focuses on indoor air quality.
