Anthem's 2019 Earnings, Revenue Expectations Higher Than Analysts' Estimates

Anthem Inc. (ANTM) is guiding for operating revenue and earnings
on a reported and adjusted basis to come in higher than analysts
are expecting.
The company said Wednesday it anticipates reporting adjusted
earnings for 2019 of more than $19 a share. Analysts polled by
Refinitiv are expecting the company to report adjusted earnings for
the year of $17.61 a share.
On a reported basis, Anthem expects earnings to be more than $18
a share. Analysts polled by Refinitiv are expecting $16.80 a
share.
The company also expects operating revenue to be about $100
billion. Analysts polled by Refinitiv are expecting $97.65 billion.
The company is expecting premium revenue to be between $90.5
billion and $92.5 billion.
Anthem is also expecting medical membership between 40.9 million
and 41.3 million, it said. It's expecting self-funded membership to
be between 25.4 million and 25.6 million and for fully-insured
membership to be between 15.5 million and 15.7 million.
The health insurer also said it is anticipating operating cash
flow to be more than $5.2 billion. It expects its cost of products
sold to be between $1.6 billion and $1.8 billion.
The company is also expecting $1 billion in investment
income.
