OpenTV to Offer Standards-Based MHP Solution for European and Asian Markets OpenTV and Alticast Sign Multiyear Agreement to Integrate Alticast AltiCaptor(TM), a DVB-MHP Compliant Receiver Software Stack, into OpenTV Core Middleware SAN FRANCISCO, June 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- OpenTV Corp. (NASDAQ:OPTV) and Alticast Corporation announced today that they have signed a multi-year agreement to integrate Alticast's AltiCaptor(TM) DVB-MHP compliant receiver software stack into OpenTV's Core middleware. With the AltiCaptor(TM) extension to OpenTV Core, OpenTV will be able to offer network operators an MHP solution that is fully compliant with Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) standards existing in Europe and Asia. OpenTV and Alticast anticipate that the integration will be completed in early 2006, with commercial availability expected sometime in mid-2006. The deal will provide network operators access to both the capabilities of OpenTV Core for the management of their set-top boxes and AltiCaptor(TM) allowing standards-based MHP applications to run in the same environment. In addition, this integrated solution will enable set-top box manufacturers to easily add MHP capabilities to OpenTV Core-based set-top boxes. Upon completion of the integration, OpenTV will market AltiCaptor(TM) through its sales and marketing resources as an extension to OpenTV Core middleware. "We have been a leader at the DVB steering committee in developing the MHP standard and are pleased that we will be able to offer a comprehensive solution for MHP that leverages our reliable, proven middleware," said Tim Evard, OpenTV's senior vice president and general manager of products and marketing. "It's important to us that we continue to support the deployment and evolution of digital television throughout the world." "Alticast is excited about the MHP extension to OpenTV's Core middleware. This will provide more options for operators. We are pleased with OpenTV's evaluation and selection of AltiCaptor(TM). AltiCaptor(TM) provides stable performance and excellent portability with proven deployments," said IH Kim, vice president of marketing for Alticast. As an open, nonproprietary standard, DVB-MHP allows service providers to build solutions composed of the best of each supplier's products, both hardware and software. This prevents vendor lock-in and provides a flexible way to expand systems and service offerings and manage long-term system maintenance. Applications developed for DVB-MHP can be authored once and run seamlessly on any DVB-MHP-compliant set-top box, regardless of the box manufacturer, content or delivery method -- terrestrial, cable or satellite.
