Multi-Year Contract Renewal
NewsNation today announced new additions to its primetime
programming line-up, with On Balance hosted by anchor/reporter
Leland Vittert taking over the 9 pm ET hour, and Elizabeth Vargas
Reports, hosted by veteran journalist Elizabeth Vargas, moving to 7
pm ET. The new line-up is effective Monday, February 10. The
network also announced that it has reached a new multi-year
agreement with Ms. Vargas to continue hosting her weeknight
program.
“We’re extremely happy to be bringing Leland and Elizabeth to
our primetime line-up,” said Michael Corn, President of Programming
and Specials. “They are extraordinary and experienced journalists
who are fearless, smart, and curious. They have travelled the globe
to deliver the news, and they have each developed a loyal and
growing audience here at NewsNation.”
Mr. Vittert joined NewsNation as an anchor in May 2021. His
program, On Balance, debuted in July of that same year. Throughout
his tenure, he has played an integral role in the network’s
coverage of the war in Ukraine, ongoing conflicts in the Middle
East, the Israel-Hamas war, and the 2024 Presidential campaign.
Since its debut, On Balance is up 270 percent in total viewers and
more than 500 percent among adults aged 25-54, according to
Nielsen.
“I am grateful to NewsNation for the opportunity to host a
primetime program, and thankful to our passionate viewers who tune
in every night,” said Mr. Vittert. “As a team, we take our role in
the media landscape seriously and will continue to be a source of
fairness to all.”
Launched in Spring 2023, Elizabeth Vargas Reports covers the top
news stories of the day and features an array of live interviews
with high-profile newsmakers across the political landscape and the
entertainment industry. Ms. Vargas also co-hosted the final
Republican Party presidential debate prior to the Iowa caucuses.
Elizabeth Vargas Reports has steadily grown its audience, with
total viewers up 20 percent since its debut, according to
Nielsen.
“I couldn't be happier to be staying at NewsNation, and to be
moving to the 7 pm hour weeknights,” said Ms. Vargas. “I’m excited
to continue our mission to report the news for ALL Americans. I
have an amazing team and am thrilled to be working with them."
Alongside Chris Cuomo, Ms. Vargas and Mr. Vittert co-anchored
NewsNation’s 2024 election night coverage, when the news
organization became the first television network in the country to
project the winner of the 2024 presidential race.
