Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT®) (NASDAQ: IDTI), the
Analog and Digital Company™ delivering essential mixed-signal
semiconductor solutions, today announced the industry’s first
low-power dual 16-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with
JESD204B for multi-carrier broadband wireless applications. IDT’s
high-speed DAC delivers best-in-class dynamic performance, eases
system-level cooling requirements, and simplifies board routing
with the JESD204B digital serial interface.
The DAC165xD1G5HN is a 16-bit 1.5 Gsps dual DAC with
10 Gbps JESD204B serial interface and x2, x4, and x8
interpolation filters. It is optimized to cover all major
multi-carrier broadband wireless customer platform requirements and
derivatives. Consuming only 400 mW of power per channel at
full operating speed, the IDT data converter dissipates less heat
than competitive offerings in its class, allowing for more densely
populated enclosures and reduced system-level cooling requirements.
Furthermore, the performance of the JESD204B interface greatly
simplifies PCB routing and stack-up by replacing 32 matched
differential lane pairs (common with traditional interfaces) with
only four JESD204B high-speed differential lanes. The DAC165xD1G5HN
is ideal for use in wireless infrastructure radio base station
transceivers, such as long-term evolution (LTE), long-term
evolution advanced (LTE-A), long-term evolution time-division
duplex (LTE-TDD), multi-carrier global system for mobile
communications (MC-GSM), and wideband code division multiple access
(W-CDMA).
“Our new DAC products expand IDT’s leading high-performance,
low-power wireless communications portfolio,” said Christian
Kermarrec, vice president and general manager of Wireless Systems
at IDT. “As the industry’s lowest-power 1.5 Gsps dual DACs to
include the JESD204B high-speed serial interface, the DAC165xD1G5HN
family of converters offers our customers tremendous value in
performance, ease-of-use, and thermal management. In addition, the
ability to use these converters across various BTS platforms makes
them highly versatile and attractive to customers who are being
driven to reduce the number of vendors used and, as a result, are
turning to trusted experts such as IDT. These products join our RF,
data compression, RapidIO®, and timing solutions to provide a
comprehensive system-solution.”
“There is strong industry demand for the JEDEC interface, as it
enables customers to achieve higher system integration, lower board
cost and complexity, and overall system performance gains to keep
pace with an insatiable demand for more bandwidth,” said Sunil Kar,
senior director in the Xilinx Wireless Business Group. “Today’s
wide-bandwidth wireless infrastructure applications use multiple
high-sample-rate data converters that require the JESD204B serial
interface. Xilinx’s support of these data converters is
accelerating the adoption of the JESD204B standard and providing
customers with powerful solutions for next-generation
communications equipment.”
IDT’s JESD204B-enabled DACs feature harmonic clocking and
deterministic latency to support beam-forming via
multi-device-synchronization (MDS), enabling multiple DAC output
streams to be sample-level synchronized and phase-coherent for
coordination at the system level. Additional applications include
communication systems based on LMDS/MMDS, point-to-point microwave
backhaul, direct digital synthesis (DDS) instruments,
high-definition video broadcast production equipment, and automated
test equipment (ATE).
Pricing and Availability
The IDT DAC1658D1G5HN and DAC1653D1G5HN are currently sampling
to qualified customers and are available in an 8
mm x 8 mm 56-pin HVQFN package. The DAC1658 is a
high-output common mode version (2.8 to 3.0 V), and the
DAC1653 is a low-output common mode version (0.25 to 0.5 V).
