TiVo's Premiere 4 Uses Entropic Communications' MoCA Technology to Deliver Reliable Whole-Home Entertainment Experiences
September 05 2012 - 8:00AM
Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in
semiconductor solutions for the connected home, announced today its
MoCA® (Multimedia over Coax) silicon and software are powering the
new TiVo® Premiere 4 DVR. The device will be shown at the TiVo
booth #2140, at the CEDIA Expo, held September 5-7, 2012, at the
Indianapolis Convention Center.
As the latest product from TiVo Inc. (Nasdaq:TIVO), the creator
of and leader in advanced television services including digital
video recorders (DVRs), the TiVo Premiere 4 allows users to record
four shows at once and serve up those shows to other TiVo DVRs for
multi-room viewing using the built-in MoCA network. MoCA can be
used to connect the Premiere 4 to the subscribers Internet service
to enable the high quality and high bandwidth for video streaming
apps.
With four digital tuners, up to 75 hours of high-definition (HD)
recording space and access to a substantial library of
web-delivered entertainment, the TiVo Premiere 4 leverages
Entropic's MoCA silicon and software to transform the home's
coaxial infrastructure into a highly-efficient, robust and reliable
whole-home entertainment network; ready to deliver superior
entertainment experiences by handling multiple HD video and data
streams concurrently.
For the custom installer, Entropic's MoCA technology is easy to
set-up, as the built-in MoCA network seamlessly creates a connected
home backbone that is powerful, reliable and supports multiple
streams of HD video content at up to 175Mbps. The Entropic
technology ensures an unparalleled multi-room DVR user experience –
all over the existing coaxial cable in the home.
"We have enhanced the TiVo Premiere 4's functionality as the
ultimate in-home entertainment device with the integration of
Entropic's MoCA technology for home connectivity," said Jim Denney,
vice president of Product Marketing, TiVo. "By utilizing integrated
MoCA support, custom installers can use the coaxial cabling within
the home to connect the TiVo Premiere 4 to the home network."
"There are so few homes in the U.S. today that have CAT5 wiring,
that the ability to use existing coax to create a MoCA home
network, supported by Entropic's technology, becomes ever more
appealing," said Al Servati, vice president of Marketing,
Connectivity Products Group, Entropic Communications. "As the new
TiVo Premiere 4 is MoCA-enabled, custom system integrators can
easily create a TiVo whole-home set-up – providing consumers with
any-room access to their TiVo content at Ethernet speeds without
the need to add new wiring."
Already used in tens of millions of Pay-TV set-top boxes around
the globe, Entropic's MoCA silicon has become the de-facto
connected home entertainment solution. MoCA has been designed to
meet the multimedia delivery and access requirements of today,
while supporting the bandwidth, reliability, and quality needs of
home entertainment services of tomorrow.
The TiVo Premiere 4 is now available through tivo.com, and will
be coming soon to home theater and Magnolia stores nationwide, with
an MSRP of $249.99 (plus a monthly service fee of $14.99 with a
one-year commitment). For additional product information, please
