Epicor Software Corporation (NASDAQ: EPIC), a leading provider of enterprise business software solutions for the midmarket and divisions of Global 1000 companies, today announced that its customers, Pointe Precision, Inc. and Symetrics Industries, LLC, are winners of the sixth annual Progressive Manufacturing 100 (PM100) Awards, selected by Managing Automation Media, a Thomas Publishing Company, LLC publication. The PM100 recognizes best-in-class manufacturers from around the world who are using advanced technologies to achieve business transformation.

Both Pointe Precision and Symetrics serve the aerospace and defense industry and are leveraging Epicor to support their manufacturing processes in order to deliver high-quality products and devices to their customers worldwide. Pointe Precision was named to the PM100 for its Integrated Quality Management System initiative -- leveraging Epicor ERP and Epicor Advanced Quality, Powered by IQS -- the company's pursuit to eliminate various stand-alone legacy ERP systems in favor of a single-source quality management system to help control risk, effectively handle regulatory compliance and drive business performance. Likewise, Symetrics made the PM100 for its Truly Paperless Production Floor initiative, utilizing the latest in Epicor ERP to adopt the mantra "Small Business Agility; Big Business Ability."

"Epicor salutes Pointe Precision and Symetrics for this honorable achievement and recognition," said Malcolm Fox, director, product marketing for Epicor. "We take pride in providing global enterprise business solutions that satisfy the unique opportunities and challenges of the aerospace and defense industry. With Epicor, our customers can expect to gain efficiencies and improve productivity by extending reach, synergy and visibility to the organization and shop floor."

The foundation of Pointe Precision's initiative is to consolidate disparate systems and solve communication breakdowns between departments with a single-source ERP solution in order to provide end-to-end quality and support work-flow best practices. "We needed to support multiple industries with one system," said Nicholas Sondelski, IS administrator for Pointe Precision. "Epicor provides a single-source solution that supports work-flow best practices. Both our customers and employees felt a positive effect as we were able to deliver information more quickly, while being confident that data was accurate." Epicor is enabling Pointe Precision to respond faster to customer requests and solve quality problems faster, supporting the company's corporate initiative to automate quality management data and processes.

Building on improved work-flow best practices, Symetrics is leveraging Epicor's latest next-generation ERP solution to take the enterprise paperless. "With hard-copy documentation, we ran the risk of documents being not current, not complete, or unavailable, which could result in defective or delayed products," said Peter Volkert, director of operations for Symetrics. "We are leveraging Epicor to eliminate hard copies, thereby reducing error rates, allowing more flexibility in product movement, improving quality and reducing cycle time, all of which are helping to save money and diminish our environmental footprint." It was Symetrics' close relationship with Epicor that allowed their paperless initiative to come to fruition. With Epicor, Symetrics has improved shop floor efficiencies by 15%, and reduced paper use by 25% company-wide (close to 100% on the shop floor). Furthermore, quality levels have improved following implementation by more than 50%. Importantly, Symetrics was able to reduce its in-process rejection rate for rework by approximately 70% over four years, contributing significantly to improved annual cost savings and increased revenue.

"As we prepare for the eventual end of the Great Recession, these winning companies dramatically underscore how the manufacturing industry will begin to emerge in an even stronger position once a recovery takes a firm hold," said David R. Brousell, editor-in-chief of Managing Automation Media. "The projects that enabled these companies to become PM100 winners reflect great creativity and inventiveness, a determined willingness to take risk, and an enduring resilience to continually improve every aspect of their business. These companies are leading the way to a better future."

The PM100 recognizes 100 projects that have achieved distinction in at least one of the eight core disciplines defined by Managing Automation Media as critical to business success in the years ahead. An independent judging panel chaired by Brousell and Jeff Moad, executive editor for Managing Automation Media reviewed the project nominations. Winners will be honored at the Progressive Manufacturing Awards Gala May 5, 2010 at The Breakers in PalmBeach, Florida where more than 200 manufacturing technology executives are expected to attend.
