State-of-the-Art Upgrades Bring Gigabit Speeds,
Increased Network Capacity and a Better Tech Experience for Fans
Throughout Venue
Comcast Business has been named the Wi-Fi vendor of choice for
NRG Stadium, home to the Houston Texans, the Houston Livestock Show
and Rodeo™ and Super Bowl LI. With a seating capacity of over
72,000 seats, the multi-purpose stadium hosts a number of key
events throughout the year in addition to football games, including
the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, international soccer matches,
and concerts.
"We are pleased to partner with Comcast Business to provide free
Wi-Fi for our fans to use on gameday at NRG Stadium," said Jamey
Rootes, president of the Houston Texans. "Fast, reliable Wi-Fi
service is the foundation that will allow us to enhance the
experience that our fans have on gameday through social media, live
video, replays and other features available through the Texans app.
Having Comcast Business on our team gives us confidence that we can
provide an exceptional connectivity experience for our amazing fans
and all NRG Stadium guests."
A 10 gigabit-per-second Ethernet Dedicated Internet (EDI) line
from Comcast Business connects the stadium’s existing Local Area
Network (LAN) to the public Internet, allowing fans to use their
mobile devices to stream, post updates and photos, and view videos
using the stadium’s free Wi-Fi. The enhancements are part of the
team’s efforts to digitally transform the stadium into a
fan-centric entertainment experience. Fans are also able to visit a
brand new Xfinity X1 wall installation inside the stadium, which
hosts multiple large screens that project other games, concert
footage, and event info.
“When we started the NRG Stadium project, we aimed to deliver a
championship-caliber Wi-Fi solution. We installed redundant 10 Gbps
Ethernet Dedicated Internet lines to provide superior wireless
access for all stadium attendees,” said Ralph Martinez, senior vice
president of Comcast for the Houston Region. “We’re proud to
provide reliable network capacity to support public Wi-Fi access
during NRG Stadium’s games, exhibitions, concerts and other
events.”
“We are most excited to bring this great amenity to guests of
NRG Stadium without using taxpayer dollars,” said Kevin Hoffman,
executive director of the Harris County Sports & Convention
Corporation. "We were able to work with the NFL, the Super Bowl
Host Committee and other stakeholders to create a unique funding
partnership to get this accomplished.”
Comcast Business has partnered with numerous stadiums and sports
venues nationwide to provide video and voice services, high-speed
Gigabit connections, and free Wi-Fi for fans, including the Atlanta
Braves’ Sun Trust Park, the Denver Broncos’ Sports Authority Field,
the Detroit Tigers’ Comerica Park, the San Francisco 49ers’ Levi’s
Stadium, the Tennessee Titans’ Nissan Field and the Oakland A's
Oakland Coliseum. In July, Comcast Business served as the official
telecommunications provider for the Democratic National Convention
at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, providing Internet
connections for media to report news from the event to the world,
and delegates to get online using the free in-arena Wi-Fi.
