Airbus said Tuesday that Chinese authorities have authorized the European plane maker to restart operations at its A320 final assembly line in Tianjin, China.

Airbus said it can now gradually increase the production of the narrow-body airliner at the site. The factory currently produces about six planes a month.

"Airbus is constantly evaluating the situation and monitoring any potential knock on effects to production and deliveries and will try to mitigate via alternative plans where necessary," it said.

The coronavirus outbreak has killed more than 1,000 people so far and forced many companies to close stores and plants in China.
