Vaalco Energy said its operations in Gabon are continuing as normal after military officers in the central African nation staged a coup and ousted the president.

The U.S. energy company said Wednesday that its Gabonese production is entirely offshore. The Etame field near the country's southern shoreline lifted about 641,000 barrels on Sunday, Vaalco said.

A group of officers in Gabon said Wednesday that they had ousted President Ali Bongo shortly after he was declared the winner of Saturday's presidential election with 64% of the vote. The officers claim the election wasn't credible or transparent.
