STAMFORD, Conn., April 15, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Ahead
of Earth Day, Synchrony (NYSE: SYF), a premier consumer
financial services company, today announced a new 'Go
Paperless' campaign in partnership with American Forests. For
the first 100,000 customers who enroll in paperless billing
beginning Monday, April
22nd through July 21,
2019, Synchrony will donate $1
for each Synchrony customer. Every dollar donated plants one new
tree with American Forests.
One of the 2019 Earth Day goals is to build and activate a
global movement that embraces nature and its values
[1].
"Synchrony is passionate about protecting the environment and
the communities where we live and work," said Denise Yap, senior vice president and corporate
citizenship leader at Synchrony. "Going paperless saves time,
drives efficiency, and helps us better meet customers' digital
needs. Through our partnership with American Forests, we are
committed to help restore the nation's forests for future
generations to enjoy."
American Forests has a three-pronged mission to protect and
restore threatened ecosystems, promote and expand urban forests and
increase understanding of the importance of forests.
"American Forests welcomes Synchrony as a 2019 planting
partner," said Jad Daley, president and CEO of American
Forests. "Their support results in tangible, long-term impacts that
benefit urban and rural communities — and to the health of our
planet as a whole."
Synchrony will donate up to 100,0000 planted trees for the first
100,000 customers who sign up for paperless billing during this
campaign.
Planting trees benefits the environment and local communities.
One single red maple tree can intercept 27,000 gallons of rainwater
every year, avoiding 4,800 gallons of runoff [2]. In one year, an
acre of trees can absorb as much carbon as a car produces driving
26,000 miles [3].
Synchrony is partnering with American Forests to help drive
customer awareness of the importance of protecting and restoring
the nation's forests for future generations to enjoy.
Synchrony's philanthropic initiative called Families that
Work provides grant support to non-profits that are making a
difference in the lives of low- and moderate-income working
families. The company also encourages employees to serve the local
needs of their communities by volunteering their time and
skills. In 2018, Synchrony employees spent more than 44,000 hours
volunteering in their communities.

About American Forests
American Forests has been restoring forests for more than 140
years. And, while we may be the oldest national conservation
organization, our work today is more important than ever. Since
1990 alone, we have planted nearly 60 million trees in forest
restoration projects in all 50 states. We have also worked in
dozens of cities across America, expanding tree canopy and
improving the quality of life for residents.
Together, these projects recover hundreds of thousands of acres
of wildlife habitat, safeguard vital watersheds, absorb millions of
tons of greenhouse gases and protect some of the most stunning
landscapes in America. At the same time, we are using trees and
greenspace to make our communities more sustainable, beautiful and
livable. Learn more at www.americanforests.org.
